FULL INDEX
AND CONVERSION TABLE

The abbreviations for citations are: H= Hardee’s Revised; G = Gilham’s; C = Casey’s; GP = Guides Posts. The various schools are: S = School of the Soldier; C = School of the Company; SKM = Instruction for Skirmishers; B = Battalion.

The format used always places Hardee’s manual first, then Gilham, then Casey, then the paragraph in Guides Posts. Sometimes, neither of these period manuals applies. When so, a short abbreviation of the other source is noted. The complete list of sources is contained at the beginning of this manual.

Here’s how the system works. For oblique alignments found in the School of the Soldier, the citation reads:

Oblique Alignments HC 22 / G 219 / CC 22 / GP 112

This topic on oblique alignments can be found at paragraph 22 in School of the Company of Revised Hardee; paragraph 219 of Gilham’s; paragraph 22 in the School of the Company in Casey; and paragraph 112 of Guides Posts.

Another example for the salute with the sword or sabre is:

The Salute  US Tactics p. 190 / G 198 / C vol. I, p. 224 / GP 447

This topic on the salute can be found on page 190 of the U.S. Tactics; paragraph 198 of Gilham; page 224 in volume one of Casey; and paragraph 447 of Guides Posts.
